These quilts are a visual representation of the diversity of the House of Representatives from the 116th Congress elected in 2018, separated by party. The quilt on the right has a square for each Republican, and the quilt on the left has a square for each Democrat. In both quilts, the off-white squares represent the white males, and the color squares represent anyone who is not a white male. The quilts clearly show the difference in representation within the two parties, where one party represents a diverse population, while the other party represents primarily white males. The pieces force the viewer to confront the reality of representation in the United States and within the country’s two major parties.
